Last week I purchased a strap from WatchGecko for shipped and it looks identical to a 0 one on the W&W shop or 0 on the Hodinkee online store (both natural leather, not shell cordovan). The strap I got has "Horween Leather" stamped on. Honestly a leather strap on a dive watch seems a bit incongruous. Personally it's a no for me, but if you like the aesthetic there's probably plenty of folks willing take that "rattly hollow bracelet" off your hands. You're in luck because the Explorer I is very strap-friendly, goes with matte leather, vintage leather, or semi-gloss like croc or gator, very few limitations. I would say to avoid these two strap types: A. Rubber - it's very thick and looks disproportionate to the 36mm case, will make your watch look very small as a result. You don’t see many explorers on leather straps because, as with many modern Rolex watches, the Explorer lug holes are positioned quite close to the case, which, when combined with some sharp bevelling between the lugs, tears up most leather straps.
