Based on the classic Rolex Daytona 116520 in steel with steel bezel, the Artisans de Genève ”La Barrichello” stands out by the way its team has transformed the Rolex calibre 4130 Chronograph, giving the watch a sportier and highly mechanical style. It all began when Rubens Barrichello —the former Formula One driver— came to them with the extraordinary project of turning his stainless steel Rolex Daytona into an open-worked watch that had a similar look and feel of racing cars. Once again using the iconic Rolex Daytona as a canvas, this time they have collaborated with Formula One driver Rubens Barrichello to make a Daytona unlike any you’ve seen before.
With a staggering 322 starts under his belt, 11 of which resulted in victory, Rubens Barrichello is the most experienced Formula 1 driver of all time. Now the benign Brazilian has joined forces with Artisans de Genève to modify a Rolex Daytona in order to reflect his enduring motorsport career.. Following in the part-time horologist footsteps of legendary Colombian racer Juan Pablo Montoya, Brazilian ex-F1 driver Barichello has worked with custom Rolex specialists Artisans de Geneve on a unique limited edition of the Daytona: La Barichello.
Last year they worked on the world’s first skeleton dial Rolex Daytona, and for this year, the Geneva-based master craftsmen have collaborated with Rubens Barrichello to customize his Rolex Daytona, by adding the mechanical style of racing cars to the watch.
They gave his Rolex Daytona a makeover to create “La Barrichello”, a strikingly and heavily modified Cosmograph Daytona with an open-worked movement. Artisans de Genève would have never imagined the challenge that awaited them when Rubens Barrichello came with the project to revisit his Rolex Daytona. Together, they reinterpreted the timepiece to give it a highly mechanical style, reflecting the pilot’s love for racing. With the custom-made Rolex Daytona “La Barrichello”, the watchmakers of Artisans de Genève and Formula One veteran Rubens Barrichello have reinterpreted his Rose Gold Daytona by making it a fascinating piece of art.
